Steam Greenlight is a new platform feature that enlists the community’s help in selecting some of the next games to be released on Steam. Louis, Mike, and James have each known each other since they started at NJIT. All three are Information Technology majors of the Game Development specialization. Though, all of the things Starfall Studios has been doing, from the Kickstarter campaign to working on their Steam Greenlight page, aren’t easy. But this system at least proved to the team at Valve that no internal team could account for the variety of tastes in games on Steam. This has led Valve to Direct, which wants to let everything on Steam so that consumers - not Valve - can decide what games should succeed. This is something the company has had on the crowded store for a while, and - like Greenlight - is introducing totally new problems. But Valve is OK with that as long as it means it isn’t making decisions on behalf of the market.
